It’s that time of the year again

They managed to scare almost an entire nation by losing to Denmark (you just don’t do that in the World Championships), but got back on their skates and squeezed out a couple of victories against Germany and the United States.

Why the fuss? To me at least, the Ice Hockey World Championships is as much a sign of spring as stumbling across the first dandelion. It’s an annual event that brings together the whole country: add to that a bit of spring craziness (you know, the kind that hits you when you realise that the sun is up at 5 a.m. and that the holidays are just around the corner) and it’s delirium guaranteed when our boys deliver what we expect from them: beautiful goals, intense fights and lots and lots of sisu. And, even if I’m generally against patriotism and nationalism of all kinds, this is the one time that hearing the Finnish national anthem brings a tear to my eye.
